Butterfly valve or rising stem valve is used for shut-off or control purposes. Rising stem valves are gate valves that do not disturb the smooth flow in the fully open position, whose open position can be visually monitored by the up and down movement of the shaft, and electrical monitoring can be done by installing a monitoring switch. They create less hydraulic loss compared to butterfly valves.
